On Friday, James met students from the University of Southampton who were taking part in the Constructionarium's engineering course in Great Bircham that aims to turn theory into practice.
James was hosted by Julia Stevens, Chief Executive, and Keith Clarke, the Chairman of Constructionarium which provides a "hands-on" experience for students and professionals in the built environment sector. Courses are run over a six-day period where students get the opportunity to, build a scaled-down replica of an iconic building or structure.
After his visit James said -
"Constructionarium provides hands on experience for students. I was impressed by the innovative approach, which takes the theory from textbooks and turns it into reality through actually building projects.
West Norfolk is fortunate to have these facilities here open for business and helping prepare the next generation develop crucial practical skills.”
James was interested to hear that project buildings have included The Gherkin, Millenium Galleries, and Kingsgate Footbridge.
During the course, students gain a range of different skills including, budgetary control, methodology, and project management. These skills play a major part in developing crucial construction and engineering skills.
