The government has issued specific advice making clear that essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks, or similar.
Over the weekend James was contacted by constituents concerned that people were not following the social distancing health advice in Hunstanton and along other parts of the coast. In response to this activity, James issued a public statement on Saturday calling on people to follow the government guidance on non-essential travel, social distancing, and self-isolation https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
James said: "I very much welcome that the government has listened and issued specific advice on non-essential travel and the impact it would have on services in North West Norfolk. Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, or caravan parks. We need to Stay at home to save lives. If people don't follow this advice then tougher measures will follow rapidly. I hope people will heed this advice to protect lives."
The new guidance says that essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. People should remain in their primary residence. Not taking these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk. The government advice on non-essential travel, social distancing, and self isolation is clear https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus As the Prime Minister said yesterday, the best way to slow the spread of Coronavirus is for everybody to follow the guidance to #StayHomeSaveLives. All takeaway premises, shops, hotels and holiday parks have an important role to play in ensuring it is observed. I have and will continue speaking to Cllrs, businesses, and others to reinforce this message."
