Today James Wild MP met with Councillors Brian Long and Sandra Squire and transport officials to discuss safety issues at the A17 where it meets Station Road at Terrington St Clement.
A previous bid to build a roundabout at the junction stalled due to a lack of funding, although lower speed limits have been introduced. The cost of a roundabout has been estimated at somewhere between £1-1.6 million, but officials indicated a new assessment would have to be carried out before any work could proceed.
Mr Wild said: “Road safety is very important and, where there are dangerous junctions, we should act before fatal accidents happen rather than after.
“I look forward to working with local councillors on ways to improve the safety of this junction.”
Sandra Squire, who represents the village at both borough and county council level, said that although the situation had been improved by the installation of average speed cameras along the A17, the volume of traffic crossing the junction meant further measures are still needed.
