James joined members of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme to visit British troops taking part in Exercise Khanjar a joint training exercise with Oman’s Armed Forces.
The Royal Anglian Regiment provided most of the troops alongside The Royal Logistics Corps, The Royal Engineers, The Royal Artillery, The Royal Logistics Corps, and others.
The training was a designed to prepare the troops for maximum battle readiness under extreme circumstances.
The exercise took place in the Ras Madrakah training area, a desert with complex wadi systems and mountains - it is 6 times the size of Salisbury Plain.
James also visited Duqm Port visit where the UK has a joint logistics support military base. The deal to take on the land at this strategically located base East of Suez was signed by the then Defence Secretary, Rt Hon Sir Michael Fallon when he was his special adviser.
The MPs and peers visited HMS Lancaster which has been deployed for 3 years as part of deterrence operations in Middle East working with partners to provide security to UK and international shipping, and preventing arms and drugs smuggling.
The Armed Forces Parliamentary Trust scheme gives MPs and peers the opportunity to develop a stronger understanding of the Armed Forces.
