James Wild MP has presented a thank you card to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak from Ukrainian family
James Wild MP has presented a thank you card from Mykola Voytiv and his family to the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP. The family from Ukraine came to the UK as part of the UK Homes for Ukraine scheme and are living in Old Hunstanton and James has been assisting them.
The card, designed by Mykola's son, Roman, was given to James at the recent Vigil for Peace in King's Lynn Minster, marking the one year anniversary of the Russian invasion. Mykola asked James to pass the card onto the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, which James did gladly.
Explaining the sentiment of the card, Mykola said:
This thank you card reflects the emotions of our family. It was designed by our family and perfectly drawn by our son. The active phase of the Russian aggression pushed Ukrainian people to flee all over the world. The whole world became as a home for Ukrainians, but sadly, not Ukraine. For our family the United Kingdom became as a new home. Now, our family has two hearts- Ukrainian and British. Thank you for supporting, helping and standing with Ukraine.
Commenting, James said:
West Norfolk has welcomed so many Ukrainian families to help them as their country is attacked by Russia. By supporting President Zelensky and Ukraine's Armed Forces to defend their country it is our hope that they will be able to return one day to a liberated country. The Prime Minister was very grateful for the card and message from Mykola and his family and will continue to stand with Ukraine.
The UK Homes for Ukraine scheme, launched on the 14th of March 2022, has so far enabled over 153,000 Ukrainians to arrive into the UK. This scheme allows individuals in the UK to sponsor a Ukrainian national or family to come to the UK and live with them, providing suitable accommodation. Further information on the UK Homes for Ukraine scheme can be found here: http://www.gov.uk/guidance/becoming-a-sponsor-homes-for-ukraine
On the 20th of March, the UK signed a pivotal trade deal with Ukraine, designed to support the country's economy whilst greatly enhancing the trade and investment relationship. Through this new trade deal, Ukraine will have guaranteed access to the financial services crucial for reconstruction efforts through the deal’s facilitation of cross-border data flows. Ukrainian businesses will also be able to trade more efficiently and cheaply with the UK through electronic transactions, e-signatures, and e-contracts.
