On Monday, as a member of the Public Accounts Committee, James led questioning on the costs and performance of NHS Test and Trace.
During his questions, James asked getting value for money for the £22 billion budget for 20/21 including whether any underspend could be used for QEH; the impact of the vaccine rollout on the testing strategy; use and availability of of lateral flow tests in schools, food production, and other places; and the effectiveness of the tracing system.
From a standing start, there is now capacity to carry out 800,000 tests a day. This is a significant achievement and James asked how this capacity would be used in the future as part of the legacy of a diagnostics industry
