On Sunday, James joined thousands of runners taking part in the Gear 10K. James was running as part of the Purfleet Trust's Purfleet Pacers team.
This was the first GEAR since 2019 due to the postponement of last year’s event due to a Covid with the race moving back from its usual May date.
There was a good atmosphere with crowds supporting the runners along the route which began and finished in the Tuesday Market Place before taking in sites including The Walks, River Great Ouse, and historic buildings.
Adam Mussett won the race in a time of 32mins 33secs. Olivia Walwyn was the first woman home in 37mins 01secs. The GEAR 10K wheelchair winner was Peter Downing in 55mins 37sec.
Also popular was the Bespak Mini GEAR - a 1.2-mile fun run for people of all ages and abilities.
As one of the region’s most popular charity road runs, the event is expected to generate a boost for local charities including the event partner charities the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, West Norfolk Mind, the Purfleet Trust, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, Forward, the Benjamin Foundation, Headway, Theresa’s Tiny Treasures and Nelson’s Journey.
The Gear 10K formed part of James' training for the Virgin Money London Marathon that he is running October to raise funds for three North West Norfolk based charities - the Purfleet Trust, Little Discoverers disabled children's charity, and West Norfolk Carers.
Commenting James said: "it was great to have the GEAR 10k back and huge thanks to he organisers, volunteers, and crowds who made it possible. The performances of the day came from Daisy Mason and Brodie Pearman in the Mini GEAR who were rightly clapped home.”
