James Wild MP talks about climate change with Dersingham School Council
As part of his focus on improving educational outcomes in North West Norfolk, James Wild MP visited Dersingham Primary School in his latest school visit.
During the visit, James toured the school with Headteacher, Mrs Zoe Warren talking about the school priorities such as increasing literacy and improving extra-curricular and community links. The school continued to be rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in November 2023.
James saw the school’s efforts to improve literary skills through the ‘Read, Write, Inc’ scheme and listened to pupils using this synthetic phonics programme to develop children’s reading and writing skills. James also participated in class lessons focusing on databases – taking part in the class data collection questions.
The Headteacher also spoke of the school’s increased community ties such as litter picks, community carol services, and visiting a local care home. Additionally, the school’s pupils take part in forest school on a frequent basis.
Later, James met the three different School Council sections – Eco Council, Sports Council, and Student Council and spoke of the work nationally to better protect the environment and reach net zero targets. He answered questions from pupils on topics ranging from parliamentary work, climate change, and hobbies.
James Wild MP said:
“It was great to visit Dersingham Primary School and to see the inspiring environment teachers and staff have created where children are encouraged to learn and discover new skills.”
Commenting following the visit, Headteacher Mrs Warren said:
“It was lovely to welcome James into our school today. The children from the school councils thoroughly enjoyed their question and answer session with James and asked him such a range of questions about his most proud moment, to his views on climate change, to his hobbies.”
