Norfolk Strategic Flood Alliance's work will lead to a new flooding strategy for Norfolk and plans for an improved emergency response to flooding.
In an update on the Alliances work to James, other MPs, parish councils, and others, Lord Dannatt has confirmed that a draft flooding strategy is being develop to ensure communities and infrastructure are "safer and more resilient to the risks of inland and coastal flooding." The strategy will be accompanied by a delivery plan with clearly assigned actions to organisations and timelines.
To improve the response to flooding Norfolk County Council has agreed to launch a 24/7 flood helpline to ensure residents know where to go to get help in an emergency. This is due to be set up by the end of May. Norfolk Resilience Forum will also provide training to parish councils to improve local resilience. A flooding exercise will also be carried out.
Commenting James said, "I welcome the progress that has been made under Lord Dannatt's leadership to bring greater coherence to plans to prepare and respond to flooding that has caused such misery to people this year. It is important there are clearly defined roles and responsibilities and organisations work together to support residents rather than passing the buck."
