James Wild MP visits Docking Primary Academy
As part of his continued focus on improving education in North West Norfolk, James Wild MP visited Docking Church of England Primary Academy and Nursery to learn more about the school’s values, meet pupils, and answer questions from the new School Council.
Docking Primary Academy is part the Diocese of Norwich Education and Academies Trust (DNEAT) and the St. Mary Federation together with Brancaster Church of England Primary Academy. Its values are courage, curiosity, confidence, collaboration and compassion.
Whilst speaking to the School Council, James was asked inquisitive questions on topics ranging from his day-to-day duties as MP for North West Norfolk, the environment, funding for school trips, and if MPs ever get lost in the House of Parliament. In response, James talked about his work in both Parliament and North West Norfolk to improve the local area and opportunities for local people. James also told the pupils that MPs try to avoid getting lost as they may miss votes if they did so.
During James’ tour of the school, he met teachers from each class and spoke about efforts to promote good attendance, focus on literacy, school funding, and supporting children with special educational needs. As a village school, the Academy prides itself on being an integral part of the community, with long-serving members of staff. As part of the school’s safeguarding commitments, each pupil chooses a teacher as a ‘trusted adult’ to share concerns or issues with.
Speaking after the visit, James Wild MP said:
“It was a pleasure to visit Docking Primary School and to talk to the School Council about the role MPs play and to hear the pupils’ ideas about improving their school. The teachers and staff play a vital role in helping the children to realise their potential in a friendly and welcoming village school.”
