UK Parliament Week is an annual festival that engages people from across the UK with their UK Parliament, explores what it means to them, and encourages them to get involved.
This year UK Parliament Week is celebrated from 1-7 November. Last year, over 1.2 million people took part in UK Parliament Week, in every nation and region of the UK.
With over 11,800 activities, UK Parliament Week is celebrated in all sorts of ways so, there is something for all ages. Examples of activities include; debating & voting; baking and, creating petitions.
Although James has had to be in Parliament this week he has enjoyed hearing and getting involved virtually with activities happing across the constituency.
A wide range of organisations have been taking part in the constituency including, schools, Girl guides, Scouts and, local museums.
Schools such as North Wootton Academy and Ingoldisthorpe Primary School received a video from James talking about his role in Parliament and the constituency.
North Wootton Academy received a video filmed in the Members' Cloakroom where James talked about how he enjoys the traditions of Parliament and explained that in the past members would leave their swords in the cloakroom. James also talked about how he represents his constituency in Parliament by helping to secure more funding in North West Norfolk for schools, rail services, and, hospitals as well as touching on the new School of Nursing opening at the College of West Anglia next year.
Ingoldisthorpe Primary School received a video from James filmed by the map of North West Norfolk constituency, where he explained the importance of representing the people of North West Norfolk, as well as, issues he helps to resolve such as helping people access universal credit, council issues, or taking up cases where people have had no resolution. As well as this James touched on being a member of the Public Accounts Committee and finished off by saying that his favourite part of being an MP is being able to make a positive impact on a constituent's life.
James has thoroughly enjoyed receiving emails from museums in the constituency informing him of all the activities they are hosting. Stories of Lynn being one of them who have been engaging with local members of the Youth Parliament exploring the idea of democracy and what it means to vote democratically. As well as this they have enjoyed arranging online tours of Parliament with people of all ages as well as drawing similarities and differences between the Palace of Westminster and King's Lynn Town Hall.
This week James has also been getting creative by creating material to illustrate to Syderstone Brownies who he is and how he is connected to them. James also had the opportunity to mention his outside of work interests such as football, running as well as talking about his staycation near Syderstone this summer!
