This Remembrance Day the public was reminded to stay at home and to 'remember at home'.
Local plans were made for a small Covid-safe closed event in Tower Gardens on Sunday 8 November 2020. The service was in line with the national restrictions, with the service being limited to just six civic representatives, and time slots allocated for 18 individuals who laid wreaths on behalf of their community organisations.
Track and trace measures were put in place and the event saw no procession but a lone bugler was on hand to mark the occasion.
The attendees for the brief service were: the Mayor of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, the Bishop of Lynn, James Wild MP, Deputy Lieutenant James Bagge and, a small number of military representatives. All attendees were socially distanced accordingly.
James said," This year was a poignant Remembrance Sunday at Tower Gardens. I was honoured to lay a wreath on behalf of my North West Norfolk constituents and Parliament. With thanks to King's Lynn & West Norfolk Brough Council civic team, the Royal British Legion & others for enabling a Covid safe event to remember the Fallen, those who’ve served, who serve, and their families."
To add colour Stories of Lynn invited children to make poppies from recycled plastic, which will be collected from schools and displayed in the Tower Gardens, ensuring the community is involved in some way in the service. The Mayor viewed the poppies when he laid his wreath on Sunday.
The Tower Gardens service was streamed live on the borough council’s Facebook page and is available on You Tube.
