James was delighted to meet Anna Pugh, the manager of West Norfolk Deaf Association, to talk about the vital work they do supporting the deaf and hearing impairment community in West Norfolk.
West Norfolk Deaf Association is part of the Norfolk Death Association (NDA), founded in 1898. Their work aims to improve the lives of young people and adults of all ages in Norfolk with all degrees of hearing loss.
Many of the services that are provided are funded by donations from generous supporters. Without those funds, they simply wouldn't be able to support the community in the ways they need.
During the visit, James spoke with the individuals who run different areas of the charity including; Rebecca Vass- Audiologist, Chris Giggs= Hearing Support Co-ordinator, Sarah Cox- Retail Manager and Head of Children's Services, and Dr Philip Koopowitz- Chair of Trustees.
James leant about the importance of the Deaf and hearing impairment community having services accessible on their doors steps, such as hearing aid support, ear syringing and children's services. Doorstep services help to keep QEH's audiology department clear while offering round the clock support for vulnerable people.
Commenting after the visit James said:
“I was delighted to visit West Norfolk Deaf Association and to meet Anna and her team as well as some of the trustees. They provide an invaluable service to the deaf and hard of hearing community in West Norfolk by helping people to access support services and guidance in a relaxed setting, providing activities and social groups including the Chat club, as well as reducing the pressure on QEH’s audiology department.”
