James joined a Little Discoverers session as one of the local charities that his London Marathon sponsorship will support to help disabled children to live more independent lives.
Earlier this month, James raised over £2200 for the North Lynn based charity that helps children aged up to 5 who have complex physical disabilities, using methods inspired by the Peto Institute in Hungary. These methods enable the parents to work with their children and while having fun learn skills to maximise their child's abilities.
James spent time seeing activities including the children using songs to reinforce physical learning, such as sitting, standing, walking, and learning to sign to aid communication. He also saw them learn to watch other children and interact with them, so helping them develop social skills.
Katie Fisher, Chair of Little Discoverers spoke to James about the importance of early in enabling the children to develop the skills needed to become more independent at home then at school and have a better quality of life.
James also learned about their plans for the future to be involved in building a hub at Lynnsport which will support the development of adapted sports and also give Little Discoverers a dedicated space to carry on their work of nearly 18 years.
Commenting after the visit James said;
"It was a pleasure to meet the Little Discoverers children and see the progress they are making. There were lots of smiles and I was impressed by the methods Katie and the team use. Before the race the children sent by a lovely good luck card and I’m pleased to have been able to help them with the support of local people.
Commenting Katie Fisher, Chair of Little Discoverers said;
"We are very excited to welcome James and hear how the London Marathon went. His example of taking part in sports is a great one, as being involved in sports will be one of the best ways for children at Little Discoverers to keep fit, have fun, and feel part of the community they live in during the coming years."
