Following the decision by the government to freeze the TV licence fee at £159 James led a Public Accounts Committee session on BBC savings and reform.
The hearing with the BBC Director General, Tim Davie, and senior executives followed a National Audit Office report which found that the BBC has consistently made savings over the past decade and has exceeded its original target of £800 million in annual savings by 2021-22 and is largely on course to achieve its revised target of £1 billion.
James' questioning focused on the delivery of efficiencies to date, plans to grow significantly commercial income, the costs of collecting the licence fee, and on air talent salaries.
