James was pleased to meet Michael Newey, Chief Executive of Broadland Housing, and Andrew Savage, Executive Development Director of the group, at Alexandra House. He was impressed by the design quality of their recent housing developments, and their focus on the need for more affordable housing along the North West Norfolk coast.
During the visit, James raised the need for affordable rented as well as shared ownership properties in North West Norfolk. He highlighted the needs in coastal area, especially for those working in the hospitality sector, with high private rents making it unviable for constituents to work and live along the coast.
James was pleased to hear that this is something that Broadland Housing recognises, and both Michael and Andrew discussed possible developments for mixed-schemes affordable schemes, whilst keeping within the style of the area, and ensuring that social and affordable housing is kept to the same build quality as those on the open market.
James also discussed the new Clenchwarton development, which consisted of four new homes on a mixed-scheme development. This provided much-needed social and affordable housing to the area. Both Andrew and Michael also talked about the popularity of shared ownership, and the positive view that more banks and building societies are taking with two new shared ownership properties in Pott Row being sold in just a weekend.
