James has visited North Lynn fire station to praise fire fighters for their efforts in fighting fires at Wild Ken Hill, Brancaster Staithe, and other places over the summer.
Listening to the accounts of those who helped to protect people and property, it was striking to hear experienced firefighters talk about the intensity of those blazes.
The visit was also an opportunity to learn more about the equipment on site and the steps they are taking to improve fire safety in people’s homes. James was struck by the variety of kit from the environmental protection unit to deal with chemical and other hazards, tools to rescue animals, to the boat to help people in trouble on waterways, and the off-road capabilities of one of the engines.
All this equipment requires high levels of training with regular refresher courses and ongoing maintenance.
During his visit, the station alarm sounded and one of the crews had to rush off to attend to another wildfire.
