North West Norfolk MP, James Wild visited Whitefriars Church of England Primary Academy after being impressed with their art exhibition last year. He met with headteacher Mat Tuckwood to discuss the importance of providing the best opportunities for pupils to succeed.
Whitefriars aims to provide pupils with the best possible start to life with a broad curriculum, including cookery lessons and visits to local museums and attractions in Lynn, ensuring all children have the same opportunities to succeed.
During the visit, Headteacher Mat also showed James the speech and language therapy suite, which helps support around half of the pupils with speech and language difficulties. James has previously raised in the House of Commons the importance of children's access to speech and language therapy. He continues to have regular conversations with providers.
James also saw some of the wider activities offered in action when he spoke to pupils learning how to make pizzas in the cookery room
And, of course, the highlight of the visit was meeting the adorable school dog Poppy, where pupils can spend time with her during their breaks and lunch.
Commenting after the visit James said:
"It was pleasure to see Whitefriars' teachers and staff’s commitment to help every child to realise their potential and the emphasis on good behaviour and the rich variety of activities on offer to achieve that. Whether focused speech language provision, the importance placed on reading, writing, and maths, or cookery lessons, the warm and stimulating environment of the school was obvious. And, of course it was great to meet Poppy the school dog!"
