On Friday, James visited St. Martha's Catholic Primary School where he was shown round the school by Headteacher Rachel Edwards.
During the visit, James discussed the challenges in supporting children with special educational needs ((SEND) and the government's response to the consultation which is due shortly. He discussed his role as MP for North West Norfolk with classes across the school before meeting the school council.
“St. Martha’s offers young people a stimulating and supportive environment to learn encouraging children to be creative, including with impressive artwork of key places in Lynn. I enjoyed talking to the pupils about my role representing North West Norfolk on jobs, QEH, the environment, and other issues. Along with questions on those topics, I was surprised to be asked what my favourite colour was and if I like salmon – blue and not so much!
Teachers and staff play a vital role in helping young people to get the best start in life and the Headteacher raised particular challenges around special educational needs which I will take up with ministers ahead of forthcoming reforms to ensure pupils get the help they need.”
