North West Norfolk MP James Wild has launched a new survey to understand more about litter hotspots locally.
He is also encouraging people to get involved with the Great British Spring Clean. James has recently been contacted by constituents concerned at litter along roads and countryside locally. This survey will help to identify particular problem areas and James will then work with the local council and other organisations to help tackle this problem.
James said: “People are rightly concerned about litter blighting our area and by sharing their views constituents can help to provide the information so that it can be tackled. The borough council is committed to protecting the environment and I look forward to working together once we have the data.”

James Wild is also today encouraging residents and businesses in North West Norfolk to pledge to do their bit to clear up the litter that blights the area during the Great British Spring Clean 2023. The campaign, running 17 March - 2 April brings people together to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep - and the charity is keen to stress litter-picking can be accessible to everybody.
James is calling on residents to show pride in their area by pledging on Keep Britain Tidy’s website to pick a bag or more of litter, helping make a huge difference to the environment. Last year, 85% of people who took part said they felt more pride for their local area.
A post campaign survey of participants also shows 71% agreed or strongly agreed that they feel more a part of their local community and 69% agreed or strongly agreed that they are more aware of the litter issues in their local area.
Commenting on the Great British Spring Clean campaign, James said:
“The Great British Spring Clean campaign is an opportunity to make North West Norfolk look its best. There is something satisfying about filling a bag and to see the area looking clean afterwards rather than littered with bottles and other rubbish. Everyone can play their part, even just through putting litter in a bin.”
The Great British Spring Clean, now in its eighth year, saw people up and down the country come together last year to clean up nearly half a million bags of litter.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said:
“We are so grateful for the ongoing support from James Wild and his constituents. During this year’s campaign, we are calling on everyone to show #PrideinPlace and help us harness the power of collective environmental action by taking on the #BigBagChallenge. It’s inspiring to see so many councils have made a commitment this year to support this vital call to action to protect our environment.”
