As part of promoting English Tourism Week, James Wild MP visited Snettisham Park to learn more about their lambing season and how visitors can get involved.
First opened in 1986, Snettisham Farm is a great all year round working farm and tourist attraction that also offers lambing in spring.
English Tourism Week 17-26 March is an annual celebration of the tourism industry, showcasing its economic importance to local communities. This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating amazing experiences and amazing people’, highlighting the role played by people working in the sector and how they ensure visitors have amazing experiences and add to the vibrancy of local communities.
During his visit James was hosted by Trevor Walters, Edward Stanton, and Charlotte Stanton, who explained the process of lambing at Snettisham Park alongside their ‘orphan’ work (lambs born in sets of triplets). During the visit, James met apprentices from the College of West Anglia and bottle fed some of the orphan lambs and it is these lambs that visitors are welcome to feed at the set feeding times (11am, 2pm and 4pm).
Visitors are also welcome to watch lambs be born and witness the ‘working’ aspect of the farm in comparison to just petting areas. Further lambing is set to start nearer the end of March, with details of this here: www.snettishampark.co.uk
Aside from lambing, Snettisham park also offers Deer Safari which is available all year round with the opportunity to feed the dear and get up close.
The visitor economy is valuable to the local economy contributing around £500 million to the West Norfolk economy pre-Covid and supporting around a fifth of all employment. Across Norfolk, it accounts for £2.8billion of Norfolk’s economy, supporting 54,000 jobs.
Commenting James said:
“North West Norfolk has so much to offer local people and visitors and given the importance of tourism to the local economy I am keen to promote our area.
“From feeding lambs which I highly recommend, to visiting the coast, countryside, heritage and leisure attractions, museums or the great pubs and restaurants, there is so much to enjoy this week and all year round.
“I encourage people to come and visit and experience all that North West Norfolk has to offer.”
