On Friday, James Wild MP for North West Norfolk tried his hand frying fish at Henry’s of Hunstanton, which took third place in the best restaurant category at the ‘National Fish and Chip’ awards in February.
During the visit, James learnt more about the local independent business and all aspects of the journey from suppliers to the fish and chips served to customers. Greg Edwards, restaurant manager, gave James a tour of the 90 cover restaurant and which was chosen as a finalist for best restaurant after a judging process that included criteria such as good customer service, staff training, sustainability, and high quality fish and chips. James’ visit came after he met the owner Jane Wallis at the National Fish and Chip Awards.
Whilst at Henry’s, James’ also had the chance to fry some cod under the supervision of chef, Chris Marks-Burton. Chris shared the art of batter cooked in the traditional way with beef dripping. Chris also spoke to James about the different sustainably caught fish varieties Henry’s of Hunstanton offers.
Commenting on the visit, James said:
“Few things compare to fish and chips at the seaside and having supported Henry’s at the National Fish and Chip awards ceremony it was a pleasure to learn more about their commitment to sustainable and delicious food. Through their success, I’m sure more people will come to Hunstanton to support this successful business that Jane and her team has created.”
Hospitality businesses such as Henry’s are an important part of the local economy offering jobs and serving locals and visitors to North West Norfolk. Opening in 2019, over £1 million was invested into the restaurant and since then Henry’s has continued to use local producers for food supplies and has created new jobs for the local area.
