James has written to Royal Mail's Chief Executive urging him to reconsider plans to relocate mail sorting from Dersingham Post Office to Lynn.
The plans have been opposed by 1760 local people who have signed a paper petition in support of local sub-postmaster Fraser Lindsay, with a further 1200 signatures online. He is concerned that the loss of income from the contract will threaten the future viability of the post office.
James Wild MP said:
“Many constituents have contacted me concerned about the future of Dersingham Post Office following Royal Mail’s decision to move its sorting office to Lynn which will see the Post Office’s income drop. Today I have written to Royal Mail’s CEO with a petition signed by 1760 local people, with a thousand more signing an online petition, backing sub-postmaster Fraser Lindsay. I’ve urged Royal Mail to listen to the strong community voice and reconsider its plans to relocate the sorting office.”
Under the current plans, the mail sorting will end in August and Royal Mail will make a payment of 12 months income. This is intended to help subpostmasters identify alternative revenue sources or make other changes to the operation of the post office. James has also met the Post Office Limited and has been assured the Area Manager will continue to provide advice to Dersingham Post Office.
