James Wild has been selected by fellow Conservative MPs to become a member of the influential Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The PAC scrutinises how taxpayers' money is spent and holds government departments and civil servants to account for the delivery of public services. It also examines public bodies and private companies that provide public services.
Lord Hennessy, Professor of Contemporary British History at Queen Mary University, has described the PAC as "the queen of the select committees…[which]…by its very existence exerted a cleansing effect in all government departments’".
Commenting on his selection, James said: "I'm delighted to join the the Public Accounts Committee and to be able to scrutinise whether billions of pounds spent on public services every year represent value for money. By scrutinising spending and delivery, its recommendations can help save taxpayers money and deliver better services."
