Today the Prime Minister has made a statement on #coronavirus that advises people to take action including:
- isolate whole household for 14 days if anyone in household has cough or temperature
- work from home where possible
- stop non-essential contact & travel
- by this weekend ensure those with most serious health conditions are largely shielded from social contact for 12 weeks.
The objective is to delay and flatten the peak of the epidemic by bringing forward the right measures at the right time, to minimise suffering and save lives. And everything government does is based on the best scientific advice.
Many constituents have contacted me seeking further clarity on NHS advice and new health guidance has been issued on:
- Guidance on social distancing that applies to everyone and for older and vulnerable people https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-…
- Guidance for schools and other educational settings https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-educational-sett…
Further guidance on other issues and sectors is available here https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/coronavirus-covid-19-list-of-…;
NHS advice is available here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
Given the unprecedented steps announced today, individuals and businesses will need a strong support package that builds on the welcome measures announced in last week's Budget.
I pay tribute to all the NHS staff including The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn, GPs, as well as care workers.
